    Why Is Life So Hard?

    Monday, June 05, 2023

I don’t know why life is hard. I don’t know why people let us down. I don’t know why young people die and people who love God suffer greatly. I don’t know why sickness comes and finances are tight. I don’t know why liars are believed and the honest ones are not. I do not know why innocent people are mistreated and abused. I just don’t know or understand these things. I have so many questions and so little answers.

I realize that when sin entered into the world, so did all these problems and heartaches. I know God has given man the freedom to choose and many times the choices that are made are not holy. God is not to blame for people’s poor choices nor the hardships we face. I know that and yet I  know that God is in control and He could spare us from the suffering and pain we and others endure. I have asked Him why too many times to count. Why didn’t you spare me from that pain? Why didn’t you stop him? Why didn’t you step in, God?

As someone who has gone through some dark valleys and thought I may not make it out, I can now see good that has come from those most dreaded seasons. I can look back and see God directing and protecting me. He was providing me with what was needed to sustain me. He was stretching me and showing me things about Himself. He was there all the time. He never left me. My faith is stronger because through the trials and tribulations I have learned that God is trustworthy and true. I have learned that His ways are higher than mine and they are for the best. God is working in our world. He is working on me and others too. And many times it’s through the hardest things that He works the most.

“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;  And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:3-5 (KJV)

No doubt, it’s hard to glory in tribulations. The only way I can do that is knowing that God is working in and through my circumstances. In me and you, God is taking our brokenness and making something beautiful. I really believe that! So if you are in a tough season, please know that you are not alone. God sees you and He’s with you. He will make this trial a blessing, somehow, someway. God never gives up on His children. You are being taken care of. God is going to get you through this. Life is short, eternity is forever. Keep hoping, praying, trusting and believing!

Help us continue providing resources of care for pastors and their families.
