Problems are a Part of Life

    Monday, January 15, 2018

Here we are three weeks into a new year and I’m sure you are still trying to recuperate from the craziness of the holidays. I pray as you are unwinding from all the hustle and bustle, you are focusing on your walk with the Lord and what 2018 looks like for you personally and in your ministry.

We as Christians are not promised a problem-free life, and certainly being in ministry does not come with that either. But we are promised that God will walk with us through those problems. I want to share my devotion from several weeks ago that spoke to my heart and I pray it will speak to yours as well.

Problems are part of life. They are inescapable: woven into the very fabric of this fallen world. You tend to go into problem-solving mode all too readily, acting as if you have the capacity to fix everything. This is a habitual response, so automatic that it bypasses your conscious thinking. Not only does this habit frustrate you, it also distances you from Me.

Do not let fixing things be your top priority. You are ever so limited in your capacity to correct all that is wrong in the world around you. Don’t weigh yourself down with responsibilities that are not your own. Instead, make your relationship with Me your primary concern. Talk with Me about whatever is on your mind, seeking My perspective on the situation. Rather than trying to fix everything that comes to your attention, ask Me to show you what is truly important. Remember that you are en route to heaven, and let your problems fade in the Light of eternity.

I know I am guilty of going into problem-solving mode way too often. I am learning to let the Lord take control, but there are still times I let the flesh get in the way and try to take control myself. Let’s make this a priority for 2018 of relying on God to solve the problems instead of going into problem-solving mode ourselves.

We are here to come alongside you in any way we can on your ministry journey.

Help us continue providing resources of care for pastors and their families.
