A few months ago I was at home recovering from surgery. I’m not one to watch a lot of tv, but being stuck on the couch and limited to what I could do, I ended up watching more tv than usual. I turned on Life Today and they were speaking to an author about her book, “ From Your Head to Your Heart”. Her name was Maria Durso and she was a pastor’s wife. I cried as she shared her testimony and knew I wanted to read her book. I ordered it and It came just a few days later. The day It came, I started reading it. I couldn’t put it down. Not only did it occupy me, but I began to earmark the pages, make notes and underline what I felt God was using to speak to me.
In “From Your Head to Your Heart,” Maria tells about the abuse she suffered as a child. And although it was physical and mental, the worst part of her abuse was spiritual. She had been so deeply hurt and wounded by those in religious authority that she felt God didn’t love her. Years of being hurt with words that clung to her spirit had caused her to turn from God and instead to the world for survival
In this book, Maria tells us how God worked in her life to save her and enable her to overcome the lies and pain she had stored up in her heart. She clearly establishes the difference between belief in your head and belief in your heart. This book is helpful for those of us who suffer from low self-esteem, abandonment, loss, and rejection.
Since I’ve had this book in March, it hasn’t left my desk. I pick it up regularly when I need a reminder that God really does love me. God has used Maria to reach me and minister to my hurting heart that has held on to some old lies about myself. The way Maria writes is so down-to-earth and personal, that by the time I was finished with the book, I felt as if I had made a friend. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is bound by the pain of the past. I pray it helps and encourages you as it has me.
Here is one of my many earmarked, underlined, God spoke to me, pages.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
I pray you will get this book and it will be a blessing to you as it has been to me.
