If you want to take some time and sit in the living room with a ministry family who has just journeyed, persevered and emerged victorious despite their circumstances, you will want to read Divine Disruption by Dr Tony Evans and his adult children.
The Evans family takes you to the intimate moments, before, during, and after of life-changing events in their lives over a two-year period just before COVID disrupted all our lives. They share the facts, the fears, and the faith that it took to emerge victorious in Christ and set a new path for a lasting legacy.
I have marked, highlighted, noted, and shared many portions of this book with whoever will listen. Whether you are in a current “divine disruption” from God in your life or you are still trying to process something from the past, this book will give insight and inspiration deep into your soul.
Among the nuggets of wisdom and faith lived out is this statement made by the youngest Evan son, Jonathan:
You don’t understand the nature of my victory, (God said), just because I didn’t answer your prayer in your way doesn’t mean that I haven’t already answered your prayers my way. I am the Sovereign God, and my game plan is far bigger than any one player on the field. So, trust in me with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. (Pg 73-74)
Jonathan in all authenticity shared his questions he had for God with the readers and included how God impressed these truths on his heart.
This is a book to read out loud with someone else, a book to keep on your bedside table to read at first light of morning or at the conclusion of a day lived. It is a book to take to the hospital to share hope with someone facing a serious illness, to the funeral home to comfort a grieving family and to church to inspire other fellow believers to keep on walking down the path God has laid out.
God will be there with you, before you and ahead of you in all things.
When you close the book after reading the last of the written words, you will realize that God has given victory to those who believe Him and walk in faith and obedience of that truth.
