I was searching for a way to add creativity to my scripture reading and I came across this website/blog for Creative Scripture Writing: swtblessings.com
The owner of the website/blog is Shannon L. from College Station, TX. Below is what Shannon writes about herself as an introduction.
“My life is full of sweet blessings from God- both big and small. I am a saved by grace, Diet Coke drinking, brain tumor surviving, monogram loving, technology loving nerd, who adores Jesus, my family, and my friends. I am blessed indeed!”
She chooses a theme each month and puts scripture to it each day. It may be a series of Psalms, a few verses, or just one for the day. She may jump you around the Bible a bit throughout the month. But you always finish your writing with a connection to the theme through scripture.
Some of the “themes” she chooses are:
“God’s Timing”
“Kindness”
“God is my Strength”
I have been doing this for the past couple of years and really enjoy the creative interaction with targeted themed scriptures.
I use a simple notebook with nice paper and when that one is filled up, I start another one. Sometimes I write in colored markers or colored pens. Sometimes I add little doodles in the margins as I am writing and rereading the scripture of the day. Sometimes I add a thought or two that comes to mind as I am reading and writing the scripture of the day.
Sometimes I miss a day or two. I may go back and “catch up” or I may just let it slide on by.
When I started this, I told myself I would not be a slave to it. I wanted it to be without guilt if I missed a day. I wanted it to draw me in organically and it has.
I have shared this with several others, and we all do the same themed plan. I even have a lady in the Philippines that I have connected to that I send the month’s plan to.
Even though we are nearly halfway through 2021, it’s not too late to start this!
Visit the website swtblessings.com and just jump in where your interest takes you.
Grab a notebook, some 3×5 note cards, or a sketch book and some pens or a favorite pencil and begin writing.
Become engaged in scripture in a new and creative way.
Sweet Blessings to you, from me, as you begin your new journey.
