Sometimes you come across a book that has been around awhile, but you had no idea about its existence. Then a book review catches your eye and suddenly you are drawn into the story.
Chasing Slow by Erin Loechner is such a book. The extra tag line to the title is “Courage to Journey Off the Beaten Path” …
The path of more, faster, quicker, living in the society called “the jungle” because the lion of not enough is always prowling. Not enough time, not enough resources, not enough talent, not enough skill. You fill in the other blanks that you think you don’t have enough of.
This is a story of a woman who started slow, ran a fast-paced life and then asked the question Why?
This is not a book of lists and neatly marked out “how to do”. Instead, it is a thoughtful book put together stories of a life that gave in to the hard wired by God desire to live a fulfilled life. A life that takes time to look up at the stars, notice the raindrops on the window, hear the slightest tone of sadness in a friend’s voice and takes the time to ask “what’s wrong?”. The life that is not afraid to hesitate, inquire, and change direction.
This is a book that you read slowly, thoughtfully and then chat with a friend about what you have read. Sharing simple but profound insights by a life marked now by stop lights instead of expressways. “The answer is not to lower the expectations we have created. The answer, I believe, is to live up to the expectations we have been created for.” Pg 263
I have taken from this book a new way to look at and live out the truth of this scripture
Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Read and enjoy and perhaps one day we will meet by a stop sign instead of passing on a highway.
Blessings,
