Now the LORD had said to Abram:
Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.Genesis 12:1-3 (NKJV)
There was nothing special about Abram when God called him – other than the fact that God called him. Was Abram ready for God’s call on his life? Not in the least! From what we read about him, he was a little cowardly entering Egypt with his wife. He was so fearful of Pharoah that he lied about Sarai and got her to lead them to believe she was his sister so they wouldn’t kill him. This doesn’t sound like someone God would call, right?
What we read in these verses in Genesis 12 above, is what God’s plan is for Abram. Notice how God tells him “I will show you” “I will make you” “I will bless you…” Everything that was put on Abram’s call – was up to God!
Abram believed God and God made it all happen – in spite of his shortcomings!
Guess what? God has placed a call on your life too, Sister! And He will equip you with all you need to meet that calling, in spite of your shortcomings or misgivings. Because God’s will stands. His purpose will prevail.
Believe Him.
Trust Him.
He will do it.
I was a divorced mother of two little girls when I became a pastor’s wife. I had faith that God brought Stan and me together and that He would take care of the mountains that were before us as a blended family with exes and a church family to navigate. I had no idea what God had in store for me when He called me to marry Stan. But He took my broken heart and broken little family and healed it moment by moment, showing me the love of Jesus through this man, Stan.
I didn’t believe I had a call on my life. I was just living out the life that God took from ruins and turned around. I learned what marriage was supposed to look like, I learned how a father was supposed to raise little girls and God led me through the steps of becoming a strong leader and teacher in His church. I learned scripture I’d never known in my heart before, and the memory recall of that scripture amazed me! I was given a depth of understanding of scripture and the ability to speak to women’s groups – that I’d never done before! I organized our little church alongside my husband and grew an amazing group of women in ministry – that soon became very well known in our community! Our women’s ministry developed an outreach in our community that brought together several other churches to meet a need for underprivileged teen girls. We brought attention to the Pregnancy Decision Health Centers in our community, manning the hotline and filling their storehouses with needed baby items and volunteers. We prepared meals for college students and delivered those meals to them on campus and enjoyed friendship with them. We created a team of “angels” who visited with and developed relationships with members who could no longer attend church. We created prayer pals between children of the church and the retired members of our church, who had the time to spend with them, teaching them to pray for one another and developing life-long relationships. We created a Grief Share ministry that 80% of the participants were from outside of our church. We created disciples by starting a discipleship program that started with 5, and those 5 created their own groups, multiplying themselves.
I didn’t believe I had a call on my life. But God did, and He made it happen. I was like Abram, a little frightened in the beginning. I didn’t make much of a strong example. But God didn’t say “Christy, you will do this…” He said, just like He said to Abram “I will do this.”
I believe Him.
I trust Him.
He did it.
He will do the same for you and the call He has made on your life! He has made you who you are and He will gift you with all you need. You are called to believe Him, trust Him, and He will do it!
