Pastor to Pastor
Let’s be honest – ministry is tough. How many of us haven’t quit numerous times? Enough is enough, no more unsigned (well-meaning) notes, no more e-mails to set us straight, no more critiques of: what we wear, how we talk, what we drive, how our wives should/shouldn’t act, our children, our dogs, our yards, should…enough already!
Far too many of us are throwing in the towel. Estimates are as high as 1,500 pastors a month leaving the ministry for any number of reasons: burnout, church dismissals, moral failures, finances, and multiple other reasons. Where is all of this coming from? What causes those of us who have this clear calling of God upon us for ministry to want to quit and go sell cars? (That is what I was going to do the last time I considered quitting.)
We can learn so much from the Apostle Peter, called by Christ to follow, a part of that inner-circle that was so intimate with Christ, yet as we well know, he denied knowing Christ. He became so caught up in himself that he cursed Christ and walked away and went back to his old job of fishing. After coming face to face with the resurrected Lord and being filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter was never the same. He no longer lived life contrary to how he believed. To those of us who are struggling, bending low under the weight of ministry he writes, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (I Peter 5:6-7).
Did you get that? “He cares for you,” the God of the universe cares for you and me, regardless of what others may say or how you may feel, you are worthy of your calling to ministry. Peter then adds a caution and another encouragement. “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings” (I Peter 5:8-9).
“Worthy Ministries,” was birthed to minister to those who minister. You may be wondering “does anyone care?” “Does anyone understand?” The answer is yes! We are committed to being a lifeline for those who are ready to give up, who feel that they are literally drowning in ministry.
We are here to listen, encourage, offer counseling with the strictest confidentiality, and provide resources for you and your family, as God provides us the ability to do so. We are here because you are worthy of your calling.
Don’t quit; don’t even consider quitting. We are here to help you. Make the call, send an e-mail. We are waiting to help you, but you must let us know who you are.
Make the contact; you will be glad you did.
In Christ,
Pastor Ron Cook, President Worthy Ministries International, Inc.
