Discouragement

By definition, ‘discouragement’ is the state of having lost confidence or enthusiasm. In pastoral ministry, discouragement is often the result of someone or some group of people seeking to prevent something from happening under the pastor’s leadership. This resistance can be evidenced in open expressions of disapproval, written or verbal, and through the intentional creation of difficulties within the life of the pastor or church.

Pastors are not immune to discouragement. If you are feeling discouraged, what you need in order to regain your confidence and enthusiasm is an encourager. Someone to come alongside you in the journey, listen to your struggle, speak truth into your life, and reaffirm God’s call to the ministry.
