If I make decisions, and live life filtered through “Be careful,” it is very likely that those voices of caution may short-circuit some of the blessings that God has prepared for me. We see examples of this over and over in scripture. One example that stands out of the price that comes with being careful is the parable of The Talents. Remember, three servants were given a sum of money by their master, all three had equal opportunities to make decisions that would impact their future. The third servant chose to be careful, to which his master said, “You wicked lazy servant!…Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.” (Read the full story in Matthew 25:14-28) There was a price to pay for being careful.
There is also a price to pay for paying attention. Once again referring to Henry Blackaby, point six in Experiencing God says “You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what He is doing.” Major adjustments do not come without a cost!
So both being careful and paying attention often comes with a cost. Being careful, the cost of missing the full blessing of the Lord with the potential of hearing, “You wicked lazy servant!” and then the price of paying attention that can call for making major adjustments in my life, which will enable me to join God in what He is doing.
Decisions, decisions…
