The lie which they propagate says:
1. Look out for number one
2. Let your hormones be your guide, and
3. Make your choices based on what is best for you.
Does that lie bring pleasure and satisfaction? Yes, for a short time. But in the long term one winds up disappointed and disillusioned. Why? Because that lie is described by God as sinful behavior that glorifies self not God. So we must ask, “Why would a holy God bless behavior which celebrates sin?” Obviously, He will not. So, today our nation is seeing the result of its celebration of sin and it is indeed a terrible sight:
1. Forty million abortions since 1973
2. Pornography sales topping $13B a year – more than the annual revenues of the NFL, NBA and MLB
combined.
3. Hollywood and the music industry pouring out the most toxic cultural pollution imaginable.
4. Nearly 17,000 murders a year. And the list could go on and on.
In this whole cacophony of EVIL, only one voice consistently speaks righteousness to our culture – the church.
But as we look at our culture, we, at Care for Pastors, see this important function of the church becoming more and more, faint. Our church community is rapidly losing its honored role as the conscience of society. Church leadership is more and more disrespected by the community of faith. Even when the leader is faithful and desires to proclaim that righteous message, his “troops” may not be united with him. They’re not watching his back and ensuring his freedom to proclaim righteousness to a world (and a church) that sorely needs to hear. Without the strong support of his “troops”, even the message delivered by a strong leader becomes increasingly watered down and weak and ultimately ineffective.
